ABOUT THE JOB

Reporting to team lead, the roles and responsibilities of the Project Manager are the following:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

· Manage and deliver research projects from conceptualisation to completion

· Manage assigned projects according to time, budget and quality

· Manage project team members (in varying composition, depending on assigned projects)

· Master project management techniques across all types of projects

· Lead or support research in relation to buildings topics and policies, such as but not limited to:

o Strategies and instruments to increase both renovation rate and depth on European, national, and local level.

o Collection and assessment of building performance related data.

o Financing, decarbonisation of heating and cooling, positive energy buildings […]

· Deliver briefings and reports for targeted audience in collaboration with the communication team from conceptualization to completion (draft, review, finalization) following internal review process

· Develop and deliver presentations at BPIE’s own- and third-party events

· Present and discuss complex issues with different audiences (researchers, policy makers, advocacy organisations, etc.)

· Engage and maintain good relationships with project partners and stakeholders, including experts from the European Institutions, research institutes and industry

· Engage in proposal preparation and lead proposals for small/medium projects to completion

· Manage tight deadlines and contributions to several projects simultaneously

· Represent BPIE in meetings and conferences.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

· Master’s degree in relevant discipline, such as architecture, engineering, economics, political or environmental sciences or equivalent with a focus on energy performance of buildings

· A minimum of 4 years relevant professional experience

· Highly proficient in spoken and written English, other European languages are an asset

· Knowledge on implementation aspects of the EPBD, EED and RED

· Technical knowledge on topics such as energy performance calculation methodologies, NZEB, cost optimal calculations, EPCs, building renovation passports and digital logbooks, energy efficiency financing, smart buildings, smart grid, district heating, decarbonization of heating and cooling, buildings whole life carbon cycle

· Familiarity with EU and member states energy and climate policies combined with a good understanding of the role of buildings in achieving the EU energy transition and the Paris climate commitments

· Proven experience in drafting reports and papers, presenting and debating technical or political topics related to the energy performance of buildings

· Autonomy in organization of work and coordination with of the team assigned to projects

DESIRABLE SKILLS

· Experience in technical building related aspects such as low carbon heating technologies, NZEB, performance monitoring, designed vs real energy consumption, etc.

· Experience in policy analysis in the areas of energy efficiency, renewable energy in buildings, smart buildings and the wider energy system

· Experience in sustainable city policy

· Experience in liaising with stakeholders from private sector, national governments, and EU institutions

· Creative and innovative approaches to research and communicating outcomes

· In-depth knowledge of building energy regulation in at least one EU member state

· Good knowledge of at least one other European language

· Willingness to work in a small, multicultural team and to be a pro-active and constructive team player

· Excellent writing and oral communication skills

· Ability and willingness to travel, primarily in Europe

· Location: the offices are located in the Trône/Arts-Loi area (23 Rue de la Science, 1040 Brussels) and are therefore very easily accessible by public transport
